The 4 Grid Connection Models (2025/2026)

Rajasthan now offers four distinct ways to interact with the grid. Standard Net Metering offsets your own consumption. Net Billing sells all generation to the DISCOM. Group Net Metering (GNM) lets one owner share energy credits across multiple branches. Virtual Net Metering (VNM) lets multiple different owners share the generation from a single community solar plant.

  • GNM and VNM require all connections to be in the same DISCOM area

Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) Permitted

A major relief for areas with frequent power cuts: DISCOMs like JVVNL (via Dec 2025 orders) officially permit the integration of Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) with net-metered connections. You can now use a Hybrid Inverter to charge batteries from solar and keep your facility running during grid failures, provided the inverter has approved anti-islanding protection to prevent back-feeding a dead grid.

  • Hybrid inverters are fully legal for net metering
  • Critical load panels can be isolated during grid outages
  • Requires submission of specific inverter test certificates to the DISCOM
