Driving an Electric Vehicle (EV) charged from a coal-heavy grid only shifts emissions from the tailpipe to the power plant. To achieve true zero-emission mobility and maximum financial savings, EVs must be charged via solar energy.
For a typical EV in India, the cost to drive 1 km is roughly ₹1.50 to ₹2.00 when charging from the standard DISCOM grid. However, when you charge the exact same vehicle using electricity generated by your own rooftop solar system, the cost plummets to ₹0.20 per km (the amortized cost of the solar plant).
