DCR vs Non-DCR: What Homeowners Must Know

To claim the PM Surya Ghar subsidy, the government mandates using Domestic Content Requirement (DCR) panels. As of June 1, 2026, this rule became stricter: both the solar module (List-I) AND the internal solar cells (List-II) must be manufactured in India and ALMM-certified. Installing cheap imported (Non-DCR) panels will result in immediate rejection of your net metering and subsidy application.

  • SOLGURU exclusively uses verifiable ALMM List I & II compliant panels for subsidy projects
  • QR codes on panels are scanned during DISCOM inspection
  • Using Non-DCR panels legally requires choosing the "Give It Up" option

The "Give It Up" Option (Exempt till Mar 2027)

If you want higher-wattage imported panels (Non-DCR) and do not care about the government subsidy, you can select the "Give It Up" option on the national portal. The MNRE has exempted "Give It Up" residential consumers from the ALMM mandate until March 31, 2027, allowing you to get standard net metering with imported panels.

  • Forego the ₹78,000 subsidy in exchange for equipment flexibility
  • Often preferred for large 10kW+ luxury villas
  • ALMM exemption valid only until March 2027
  • Standard JVVNL net metering still applies

Frequently Asked Questions

Your application will fail during the physical JVVNL inspection. The inspector scans the panel barcodes against the MNRE ALMM database. If they contain imported cells, the net meter will not be installed and the subsidy will be denied.

For a 3kW system with proper DCR panels, you receive the maximum Central Subsidy of ₹78,000, plus an additional Rajasthan State Subsidy of approximately ₹17,000, totaling around ₹95,000 directly to your bank account.
